The Modesto Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to the fatal shooting of a Modesto man. MPD reports that its officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of Citi Auto Sales in the 900 block of McHenry Avenue just after midnight on September 6, 2024.
At the scene, officers found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. MPD has identified the victim as 43-year-old Jose Valdez of Modesto.
MPD’s Investigative Services Division assumed control of the investigation. Detectives say they identified the suspect as 43-year-old Edward McCullen. Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, MPD’s SWAT took McCullen into custody.
McCullen was booked on multiple charges, including weapons violations and homicide.
