The Modesto Police Department has announced an arrest in an overnight homicide. According to a social media post from MPD, the Violent Crimes Unit arrested 32-year-old Ruben Olvera for the homicide that occurred just before 9 p.m. on February 16, 2024.
MPD officers responded to the area of 6th Street at the SR99 NB off-ramp to help CHP with a reported collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The involved vehicle had fled the scene while the pedestrian was located on the on-ramp, according to MPD. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Officers learned that this was an assault that occurred within MPD’s jurisdiction. Ruben turned himself into a uniformed patrol sergeant just after 3 p.m. on February 17, 2024. He was booked for Homicide and Domestic Violence.
