Officers with the Chattanooga Police Department were working at the Hamilton Place Mall when they received a report of a fight. The suspect allegedly brandished a firearm during the fight.
After receiving a description, officers were able to locate the suspect. The suspect attempted to flee but officers quickly apprehended him.
Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Mikel Johnson. A handgun and a full magazine were recovered at the scene.
Following a preliminary investigation, officers determined Johnson was assaulted by two unidentified males. After being assaulted, Johnson brandished a handgun.
A bystander sustained minor injuries when the other males fled the area after the fight.
Mikel Johnson was remanded to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center on reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possession of a weapon on posted property, and possessing a firearm with the intent to go armed charges.
