The Portland Police Bureau has identified the homicide victim in a fatal shooting in the Buckman neighborhood. Around 1:48 PM on December 6, 2023, Central Precinct officers responded to a report of shots fired near Southeast Main Street and Southeast Water Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a victim down with bystanders performing CPR. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Any suspect or suspects had left the scene before police were called. Officers performed an extensive search of the area, but no one was arrested.

On December 14, 2023, the Medical Examiner identified the homicide victim as 49-year-old Michael L. Hart. The Medical Examiner also determined that Hart died of homicide by gunshot wound. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the family has been notified and is requesting privacy at this time.
