Update 2 – Metro Nashville Police have identified the suspects involved in the shooting on Monday night. Five men were allegedly involved in shooting at an undercover TITANS Unit detectives just before 11 p.m. on Monday.
MNPD says the men fired more than 30 rounds at the detective before fleeing in a stolen Infiniti Q50 into Wilson County. Detective Chris Lawson was not injured in the incident. The stolen vehicle was later disabled and the five men were apprehended.
MNPD says six guns were recovered after being tossed from the stolen vehicle in Wilson County. 23-year-old Eric O. Mario, 19-year-old Ronny I. Edmonds, 18-year-old Mahamed M. Muganga, 19-year-old Abraham G. Mario, and 18-year-old Omar A. Yussuf were taken into custody.
The men are charged with multiple crimes, including Using Guns in the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Gun Theft, Auto Theft, Evading Arrest, and Aggravated Assault on a First Responder.
Update – Mt. Juliet Police have provided an update on the shooting situation. MJPD reports that it was notified by MNPD’s helicopter of a suspect vehicle that fired at the detective’s vehicle around 11 p.m. on Monday night.
MJPD officers developed a plan and used a spike system as the vehicle exited I-40 onto Golden Bear Gateway. The vehicle was disabled near Golden Bear Gateway and Volunteer Boulevard. Five suspects fled from the vehicle into a nearby wooded area.
MJPD officers and officers from other agencies established a perimeter. All five suspects, who are from Nashville, were apprehended.
Original – A Metro Nashville Police Department detective was shot at while conducting surveillance. Five individuals are in custody. MNPD reports that some 20 shell casings are scattered across Howerton Street and North 6th Street.
The shooting occurred while an MNPD TITANS Unit detective was conducting surveillance in the area. Following the shooting, MNPD says the shooters fled the area in a stolen Infiniti to Mt. Juliet.
A helicopter was used during the pursuit. Five men were taken into custody. The detective was not harmed during the incident. No officers fired their weapons. More updates will be provided when available.
