Memphis Police Department officer shot multiple times during traffic stop

The Memphis Police Department has said that one of its officers was shot during a traffic stop. Around 4:19 a.m. on March 8, 2024, an officer carried out a traffic stop on a black Nissan Sentra for speeding at 240 southbound near South Parkway East. After the officer made contact with the driver, additional officers arrived at the scene.

MPD said the driver of the vehicle opened fire on the officer who was attempting to issue a citation. The officer was hit multiple times. One of the other officers returned fire. The suspect fled the scene. The officer was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, but he has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Around 7:45 a.m., the suspect vehicle was found unoccupied in the 500 block of Dempster Road. Despite canvassing the area, officers were unable to find the suspect. Around 9:31 a.m., the suspect, 22-year-old Geronimo Kee, was arrested in the 4700 block of Turco Drive. MPD says Kee had an injury to his hand.

Three females and a male were also detained at the scene. Kee has been charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and more. 24-year-old Zaire Kee, 42-year-old Tezaree Penning, 23-year-old Kennedy Williams, and 25-year-old Malik Oliver are also charged.
