Update – Memphis Police have provided an update on the mass shooting during a block party. MPD says it was determined there were only eight total victims. Two were pronounced deceased at the scene. One of the six remains in critical condition at Regional One. One victim has been released.
Original – The Memphis Police Department is investigating a mass shooting that left two dead and 14 people injured. According to MPD, officers responded to the 2400 block of Carnes Avenue in reference to a shooting. At the scene, officers found five victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Three were transported to area hospitals in critical condition.
Two men were pronounced deceased. Officers were informed that 11 additional gunshot victims were transported to area hospitals via private people. In total, there are 16 victims. Authorities say there was a block party occurring without a permit with up to 300 people in attendance.
