Mass shooting at Birmingham nightclub leaves four dead

Update – The Birmingham Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings that occurred on Saturday night. Office Truman Fitzgerald said in a video statement that the community lost seven community members due to senseless violence.

Three victims were fatally shot and killed in a triple homicide in the 1700 block of Summer Drive. The victims include a mother and her five-year-old son. Later that evening, four victims were fatally shot in a mass shooting at a nightclub in the 3400 block of 24th Street North.

An additional 10 gunshot victims arrived at an area hospital and have suffered life-altering injuries. BPD has assigned all detectives to these investigations. BPD’s federal partners have begun providing assistance as well.

Original – The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating a quadruple homicide after multiple people were shot at a nightclub. Around 11:08 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to a report of multiple people shot at a nightclub in the 3400 block of 27th Street North.

When officers reached the scene, they found multiple people shot. Birmingham Fire and Rescue reached the scene and pronounced one adult male victim on the sidewalk deceased. Two adult female victims were pronounced deceased. They were found inside the nightclub.

Multiple gunshot victims began arriving at an area hospital. An adult male gunshot victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. BPD says there are at least nine additional gunshot victims receiving treatment.

The preliminary investigation suggests one suspect fired shots from the street into the nightclub. BPD says federal partners have responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
