The Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on Saturday evening in Cecil County. According to an MSP media release, troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack responded to a three-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 95 around 6:50 p.m. on Saturday.
The preliminary investigation suggests traffic was stopped in the left two lanes due to a previous crash when a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic rear-ended a 2016 Toyota Highlander, according to MSP. Then, the Highlander rear-ended a 2022 Toyota Rav4. The driver of the Chevrolet Sonic, 18-year-old Gage Myers, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 19-year-old passenger in the vehicle was transported to Christiana Medical Center for treatment. The adult female driver and a juvenile male passenger in the Highlander were transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment. A female juvenile in the Highlander was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital.
MSP says northbound I-95 was closed for less than four hours following the crash. At this time, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
