Seattle Police have arrested a 42-year-old man after he was shot during a burglary this morning. The Seattle Police Department reports that officers responded to a burglary in the 4200 block of Rainier Avenue South around 2:05 a.m. on July 19, 2024.
As officers were approaching the scene, another 911 call reported an injured man a few blocks north of the crime scene. SPD officers found the suspect near Rainier Avenue South and South Andover Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand.
The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition and arrested for Investigation of Burglary. SPD says suspected narcotics were found on the suspect. Following a medical evaluation, the suspect is expected to be booked into King County Jail.
SPD believes the man broke into a business and was confronted by the armed businessman who was asleep at the time. The 71-year-old victim reported that the burglar was armed with a knife and he shot him in self-defense.
SPD says the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives. A gun was recovered as evidence. Sheers were also found at the scene.
