The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a stabbing and a fatal shooting on Sunday evening. NOPD reports that it is investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and St. Claude Avenue. A man was killed and a woman was injured.

Fifth District Officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by cutting at the aforementioned location just before 4 p.m. on Sunday. At the scene, officers found an adult female victim in a wheelchair suffering from multiple stab wounds.

An adult male victim was found with a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. The female victim was transported to an area hospital while the male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives believe the deceased male attacked the woman and repeatedly stabbed her in an unprovoked attack. A security guard from a nearby business intervened and fatally shot the attacker.

The security guard was questioned and released. No other details are available at this time.
