The Atlanta Police Department is investigating a shooting situation. Around 3:13 a.m. on December 31, 2023, Atlanta Police officers responded to 280 Richardson Street Southwest after receiving a report of someone shot. At the scene, officers found an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.

Atlanta Police said the man was alert, conscious, and breathing. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities say they learned that the male had entered the location illegally and awoke an occupant as he entered her room.

The occupant retrieved a firearm and shot the intruder. Following the preliminary investigation, the injured male was charged with Burglary and is being held at Grady Detention. The investigation is ongoing. The occupant of the home has not been charged.
