The Pueblo Police Department has arrested a man who is accused of attempting to rob a park ranger. PPD reports that officers responded to Bessemer Park for a report of a man with a large stick running up to people and harassing them while yelling.
At the time, several adults with young children were in the area. When an officer reached the scene, she learned that the man had attempted to rob a park ranger who yelled for the man to stop. The man approached the ranger with a knife and demanded money.
The park ranger pepper-sprayed the man causing him to walk away. When the officer approached the man, he allegedly turned and displayed one knife in each hand. The officer decided not to engage the man due to the number of people in the park.
The man walked from the park before being apprehended by several officers. 42-year-old James Gilbert was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on charges of Felony Menacing and Attempted Aggravated Robbery.
