Madras Police arrests Harjinder Virk in DUII hit and run involving a pedestrian

The Madras Police Department has announced the arrest of 39-year-old Harjinder Virk for Assault, Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Reckless Driving, Theft, Disorderly Conduct, and DUII.

Around 1:16 p.m. on September 30, 2024, Frontier 911 dispatchers received a request for an officer to respond to a business in the 100 block of South 5th Street. The caller reported that an individual had been struck by a motor vehicle and that the driver was in possession of a firearm when he fled in a dark-colored SUV.

The victim was treated by EMS at the scene for a minor injury. Following other calls, officers began searching the Madras area and Highway 26 West. Around 7:16 p.m., authorities found the involved vehicle near Highway 26 and Pelton Dam Road.

The suspect was taken into custody. MPD says a firearm was recovered. Harjinder Virk was taken to the St. Charles Hospital. Then, he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail where he is being held on $12,500 bail.
