Update – The Lexington Police Department confirmed the suspect had been arrested without incident.
Original Story – The Lexington Police Department has announced the identity of a suspect in a triple shooting. According to LPD, detectives were able to identify the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting. Officers and detectives found the vehicle early this morning and attempted to carry out a traffic stop but the driver fled.
The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later. Detectives say they seized evidence from inside the vehicle and identified a person of interest as 39-year-old Zackary Lee Plowman. Investigators believe the incident involved a church break-in and armed carjacking at the Community Fellowship Moravian Church on Welcome-Arcadia Road in Davidson County.
With assistance from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that Plowman was also a suspect in the church incident, according to authorities. The Lexington Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Plowman in connection to the shootings on Virginia Drive for three counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony flee to elude.
The victims of the shooting have been identified as 26-year-old Miguel Mejia, 48-year-old Rigo Mejia, and 25-year-old Anthony Fritz. The victims are being treated at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time. Anyone with information about Plowman’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
