Lexington man arrested for allegedly trying to kill three by setting house on fire

A Lexington man has been arrested in connection to an arson case. Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon alleges that the man tried to kill three people in the arson. LCSD deputies arrested 31-year-old Tracy Chad Russell Jr. for allegedly trying to kill two children and a woman by setting fire to a home.

Russell is charged with three counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Second-Degree Arson. Fire Service responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Addie Lucas Road on June 28, 2024.

LCSD investigated the suspicious fire with assistance from the LCFS Fire Marshals Division. Investigators say they determined that Russell knew three people were inside when he set the residence on fire using torch fuel canisters.

Russell was arrested in Orangeburg County on Wednesday. He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
