The Lewiston Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident at McGraw Park. LPD reports that its officers responded to an incident at the park around 6:50 p.m. on August 23, 2024.

At the scene, numerous witnesses reported that a shooting had just occurred during a “Back to School” event. The park was filled with people and school supplies were being distributed for the upcoming school year.

Most of the participants were children. Witnesses told authorities that a male teenager emerged and fired into the air and ground. A vehicle was struck. No one was injured during the incident.

A female was treated for an asthma attack at the scene. Around 7:04 p.m., LPD responded to the area of Pine and Horton Street for another shots fired incident. Witnesses told police that the shots may have come from a vehicle or juveniles that were in the area.
