The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the suspect in a fatal collision on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge is facing more charges. An accomplice is also facing charges. The HCSO Auto Theft Task Force witnessed 22-year-old Leosvany Arias Roman in the county driving a white Ford Mustang reported stolen by the Tampa Police Department around 10:20 PM on December 6, 2023.
Deputies approached Roman after he parked in front of a business at 2919 West Columbus Drive within city limits. Roman allegedly started the car and rammed two HCSO vehicles before fleeing the area. Roman is facing charges from HCSO for his alleged crimes in Hillsborough County, according to authorities.
30-year-old Mohammed Ali Pujol is also facing charges. He was reportedly sitting in a silver Mercedes sedan which was parked next to the white Mustang. Authorities say Pujol sped towards an HCSO deputy who was forced to jump out of the way. Tampa Police Officers attempted a traffic stop and used stop sticks in the 3300 block of North Nebraska Avenue before Pujol was arrested.
Pujol is also facing multiple felony charges from HCSO. Leosvany Arias Roman is facing charges of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officer with Deadly Weapon x2, Burglary of Unoccupied Conveyance, Resisting Officer Without Violence X2, Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, and more.
Pujol is facing charges of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement Officer with Deadly Weapon, Fleeing to Elude Highspeed, Driving with License Canceled, Suspended or Revoked, and Resisting Officer without Violence.
Roman was allegedly responsible for a head-on crash while fleeing from authorities. According to authorities, he was driving the wrong way on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge when he rammed a trooper’s vehicle and crashed head-on into a minivan. The crash killed the Uber driver and one of his passengers. Two others were seriously injured.
