Lee’s Summit Police investigating after homeowner shoots man who refused to leave his home

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is investigating after a possible residential burglar was shot by a homeowner. Around 7:36 a.m. on August 31, 2024, LSPD officers responded to an address in the 2800 block of Northwest Chipman Road for a report of a burglary.

LSPD reports that the homeowner said a male subject had entered their residence and refused to leave. The homeowner shot the man in question. The suspect fled the scene as a passenger in a vehicle.

A short time later, police stopped the vehicle and took two individuals into custody. The shot suspect was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. LSPD detectives do not believe the suspect and homeowner knew each other.

At this time, a motive is not known. No other details are available.
