Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrests man for violent home invasion that left dog dead and man shot

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 26-year-old Gray man for home invasion and attempted murder. LCSO reports that Joseph Collett was arrested around 3:07 a.m. on Monday.

The arrest stems from an investigation of a reported shooting. Deputies responded to a complaint about a male subject shot in the leg off Wagers Road approximately seven miles southeast of London, Kentucky.

At the scene, deputies found a 38-year-old man suffering from a graze wound to the leg. LCSO alleges that the investigation determined that Collett had shot and killed a dog on the front porch belonging to the victim.

Then, he allegedly kicked in the front door and forced entry into the residence off Wagers Road. Collett is accused of shooting the male homeowner in the leg and firing other shots inside the residence. Authorities say one of those shots missed a four-year-old child.

Another child was in another part of the residence at the time. After the shooting, police allege Collett stepped outside and fired more rounds into the residence before fleeing. No other injuries were reported.

Collett is charged with Attempted Murder, Burglary, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Wanton Endangerment (Two counts), and Cruelty to Animals.
