On Monday night, the Birmingham Police Department announced it was investigating a homicide. In a video statement, Sergeant Laquitta Wade said North Precinct officers responded to a 10-round Shot Spotter activation around 10:10 p.m. on April 15.

While officers were en route to the scene, the call was upgraded to a person shot. At the scene, responding officers discovered an unresponsive male on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire & Rescue pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Sergeant Wade says the preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting took place at Graymont Avenue and Center Street. BPD believes the victim ran one block to 6th Avenue West and Center Street where he collapsed. At this time, no one is in custody.
