Las Vegas police investigating deadly shooting at homeless encampment with five victims

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting at a homeless encampment at the intersection of Sandhill Road and Charleston Boulevard. According to a press release from Las Vegas police, dispatch received reports of multiple victims shot at the intersection of Sandhill Road and Charleston Boulevard just after 5:30 PM on December 1, 2023.

Patrol officers arrived at an unhoused encampment where they found five male victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Once medical personnel arrived, they transported all five victims to UMC Trauma. One victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A second victim is in critical condition. The remaining three victims are listed in stable condition.

Detectives say they learned through the course of the investigation that an unknown race male approached the homeless encampment and opened fire on the occupants inside. Detectives acquired surveillance footage that shows the suspect running past a nearby business.

Then, the suspect enters a dark SUV and leaves in an unknown direction. In the video, the SUV can be seen driving north on Sandhill Road before turning around and heading south. Then, the vehicle stops and the suspect runs south on Sandhill and gets into the passenger side of the waiting vehicle.

LVMPD says it is aware of the killing of three unhoused individuals in California. It has not ruled out any correlation. Anyone with information is asked to call LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or email at homicide@lvmpd.com. It is also possible to submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 702-385-5555.
