The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the 8th officer-involved shooting of 2023. According to a news release from LVMPD, dispatch received a report of a male armed with a gun and involved in a dispute with a man in the 3200 block of North Nellis Boulevard around 3:35 PM on November 29, 2023. While officers were traveling to the scene, the suspect fled in a vehicle.
The air unit located the suspect vehicle and witnessed the suspect flee on foot near the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue. Authorities say the suspect entered an unoccupied tow truck before driving to the 5700 block of Baffy Circle where he was spotted running inside a residence. Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter and determined it to be a barricade incident.
SWAT and crisis negotiators responded to the scene. Authorities say the suspect tried to flee on a motorcycle but wrecked after being struck with low-lethal options. During a foot pursuit, the suspect reportedly drew his firearm leading to an officer discharging his firearm. The suspect was struck.
The suspect was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he remains in unknown condition.
