The Las Cruces Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 44-year-old man. LCPD reports that officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at an apartment in the 200 block of West Madrid Avenue around 11:15 p.m. on July 31, 2024.
At the scene, first responders found a 44-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he passed away. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.
LCPD says the preliminary investigation suggests the man was armed with a knife when he tried to force his way into an apartment. A 24-year-old resident was armed with a gun and shot the victim at least once.
