A fugitive has been taken into custody after jumping into the bayou in an attempt to elude deputies. Sheriff Craig announced the arrest on May 23, 2024. 34-year-old Tyron Rainey was allegedly in possession of drugs and cash following his Tuesday arrest.
Around 4:30 p.m. on May 21, deputies received information that Rainey may be in the Thibodaux area. LPSO says Rainey was wanted on numerous charges. Deputies found the suspect’s vehicle traveling north on LA Highway 308 and carried out a traffic stop.
The driver failed to stop but eventually stopped in a parking lot. Rainey allegedly exited the passenger side of the vehicle carrying a bag and began to flee from deputies. LPSO deputies witnessed Rainey throwing a bag on the top of the roof of an apartment building before leaping into Bayou Lafourche.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody. Deputies retrieved the bag which contained 98 grams of heroin, 15 packs of marijuana, 600 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and around $4,000 in cash.
LPSO says Rainey admitted to telling the driver to stop the vehicle. Rainey was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correction Complex.
