The Kuna Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Thursday. The suspect is in critical condition. No officers were injured. Around 6 p.m. on August 1, 2024, the Meridian Police Department responded to a report of a fight near South Eagle Road and East Overland Road.
Officers found the involved suspect vehicle around 6:16 p.m., but the vehicle fled leading to a police pursuit. The pursuit was discontinued around 6:22 p.m. when officers lost sight of the vehicle.
Around 6:37 p.m., Kuna Police deputies found the vehicle and started a second pursuit. Deputies pursued the vehicle northbound on Meridian Road. At some point, the suspect called Ada County Sheriff’s Office dispatch to say he had a gun.
An ACSO deputy tried to deploy spike strips on Meridian Road. The suspect allegedly drove towards the officer who was standing outside of his vehicle. The deputy moved out of the way to avoid being hit.
The suspect eventually approached the I-84 overpass and entered the westbound I-84 entrance ramp from Meridian Road. A Kuna deputy used the PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle which came to rest in the median.
Authorities say verbal commands were issued to the male driver before shots were fired. The driver was struck and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured.
The Boise Police Department is leading the Critical Incident Task Force. No other details are available at this time.
