The Knoxville Police Department has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection to an incident that occurred at the Market Square Parking Garage on Friday afternoon. KPD reports that 30-year-old Demetricus Hurst has been charged with rape and other charges.
Around 2 p.m. on June 14, 2024, officers responded to 406 Walnut Street. A 56-year-old female victim reported she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man in the bathroom at the parking garage.
KPD says the suspect was captured on parking garage security video. Pictures were shared by East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers. On June 17, 2024, Hurst arrived at the Public Safety Complex where he spoke to Special Crimes Unit detectives.
KPD detectives allege he confessed to sexually assaulting the victim. Hurst has been booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on charges of rape, aggravated kidnapping, and sexual battery.
