Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office investigating discovery of human skull on Nichols Avenue in Bremerton

Update – The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on the discovery of a human skull found on December 3.

According to authorities, it has been determined that the skull appears to have been sitting on a shelf indoors for many years. As a result, it is believed it was a medical specimen at some point.

KCSO says the skull will be turned over to the Washington State Historical Anthropologist’s Office for proper documentation and storage or disposal.

Original – The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office announced that it is investigating the discovery of a human skull. According to KCSO, detectives are investigating the discovery in the 400 block of Nichols Avenue in unincorporated Bremerton.

Authorities say the discovery was reported around 11 a.m. on December 3, 2024. KCSO says there is no evidence of a crime and there is no threat to the public.

At this time, authorities do not know the origin of the skull. The Sheriff’s Office says it may have been used for medical or teaching purposes.

KCSO says the evidence is being sent to the University of Washington for examination to help determine the skull’s origin.
