Kent Police investigating fatal shooting of 13-year-old male victim

A 13-year-old boy has been fatally shot in Kent, Washington. The Kent Police Department is investigating. KPD reports that officers and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority Firefighters responded to an apartment complex at 22400 Benson Road for a report of a male shot around 9:04 p.m. on July 16.

Witnesses reported that a male had been shot in the abdomen and was lying on the sidewalk. KPD officers reached the scene and found the 13-year-old male victim. Aid was provided, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

KPD says multiple 911 callers and witnesses reported that the shooting occurred at a park at 23300 100 AV SE. Witnesses said a group of young males had fled on foot after the shooting. KPD officers determined that the victim had been shot at the park and transported to the apartment complex by another party.

KPD says its officers recovered a vehicle that had been stolen in Seattle near the area where the shooting occurred. It is not known whether the vehicle was used by any of the involved parties. No other details are available at this time.
