The Kent Police Department is investigating a vehicular homicide that occurred early this morning. Around 1:51 a.m. on December 30, 2023, Kent officers were dispatched to the 12400 block of Southeast 256th after 911 received an iPhone crash notification. Witnesses called 911 to report that the occupants of the two vehicles involved had serious injuries.
At the scene, officers discovered that a passenger was deceased. Authorities say it appeared that a 30-year-old Kent woman had been ejected from a RAV-4 during the crash with a Dodge Challenger. The driver of the RAV-4, who is identified as a 31-year-old Kent man, was sitting near the woman in the grass. He was taken to the hospital.
The 25-year-old driver of the Dodge Challenger was transported to an area hospital. Police say both drivers exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. Search warrants were obtained to allow blood samples to be taken from both drivers. The results are pending.
The Kent Police Traffic Unit assumed control of the investigation.
