According to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on the morning of December 13 in the 2700 block of Lincoln Avenue in Saint Albans. A 53-year-old man was killed as a result. Officers with the Saint Albans Police Department responded to a residence on Lincoln Avenue after midnight regarding a domestic violence call and a man wielding a knife.
Nitro Police Officers responded as well. At the scene, officers were confronted by the male who was still carrying the knife. Police say they made attempts to use less lethal force, but those efforts were ineffective. The male continued to advance towards officers with the knife.
Authorities say the officers were forced to discharge their weapons. Following the shooting, life-saving measures were performed but the 53-year-old male succumbed to his injuries. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Detectives, Lieutenant S.D. Snuffer reported that three officers discharged their weapons. Two were with the Nitro Police Department while the remaining officer was with the Saint Albans Police Department.
No officers were injured during the incident.
