The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that 35-year-old Kaira Leigh Wilson of Broken Bow was sentenced to 48 months in prison for one count of Child Abuse.
Wilson was found guilty by a federal jury on January 11, 2024. Investigators allege that law enforcement responded to a 911 call at an Idabel residence on March 12, 2024 and found an unresponsive six-month-old infant.
The infant was rushed to an area hospital with acute respiratory failure. Medical professionals were able to successfully resuscitate and stabilize the infant. Medical scans reportedly revealed fresh injuries consistent with non-accidental trauma, including a subdural hematoma and extensive retinal hemorrhages.
Authorities also say the infant suffered vision loss in one eye. Law enforcement alleges that a witness saw Wilson throw the infant against a wall prior to the 911 call. Authorities say the crime occurred in McCurtain County within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation of Oklahoma.
