Joliet Police arrest suspect for home invasion and sexual assault of juvenile

The Joliet Police Department has arrested a 23-year-old man on two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, two counts of Home Invasion, two counts of Battery, one count of Obstructing a Police Officer, and one count of Unlawful Restraint.

JPD reports that officers responded to the 900 block of Richards Street for a report of a female saying a man was in her home and attempted to assault her around 7:37 a.m. on June 6, 2024.

JPD says the juvenile female victim called back saying the suspect was her neighbor. The victim reported that 23-year-old Isaias Vargas hurt her and attempted to do things sexual in nature.

The victim told authorities that Vargas fled through the back window. Officers witnessed the suspect coming from the victim’s house before fleeing from officers. JPD officers chased the suspect but lost sight of him.

Officers watched the suspect’s residence in the 900 block of Richards Street and noticed a chicken coop. JPD says Vargas was eventually found hiding on the second story of the chicken coop.

JPD detectives responded to the scene. Detectives claim Vargas admitted to climbing into the window and looking at the victim. He allegedly told detectives that he attempted to have sex with the victim today and admitted to sexually assaulting her when she was younger.

The Will County Children’s Advocacy Center carried out an emergency forensic interview with the victim who provided details about today’s events and events when she was younger. JPD alleges Vargas admitted to the same accounts as the juvenile victim.
