A 20-year-old from Joliet, Illinois has been arrested on three counts of First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Just after 11 p.m. on June 1, 2024, JPD officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Krakar Avenue for a report of a person shot.
At the scene, officers found a 23-year-old man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the living room. A 27-year-old man was found with a non-life-threatening graze gunshot wound to the head. Officers learned that a 20-year-old man with gunshot wounds had arrived at Silver Cross Hospital.
The 27-year-old victim was treated and released. The 23-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. On June 16, 2024, JPD announced the arrest of 22-year-old John Hernandez for First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
Detectives say they identified Hernandez as a suspect in the shooting that killed 23-year-old Fernando Contreras. On June 17, 2024, 20-year-old Elian Raya was arrested and charged with three counts of First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
Detectives say they determined that Raya was also a suspect in the shooting. Raya was served with the warrant at the Will County Adult Detention Facility where he was incarcerated.
