A man has been charged with Vehicular Homicide in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on US 90B in Jefferson Parish. The Louisiana State Police reports that Troop B was notified of a multi-vehicle crash on US 90B at Scotsdale Drive around 7 p.m. on April 30, 2024.
The Louisiana State Police says the crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Michael Barahona of Harvey. Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities believe Barahona was driving a 2008 Ducati motorcycle east on US 90B.
67-year-old John Semien was driving a 2001 GMC pickup truck south on Scotsdale Drive. Semien allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection and entered Barahona’s path.
The front of the Ducati motorcycle collided with the passenger’s side of the GMC pickup truck. Barahona suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene.
The Louisiana State Police claims Semien attempted to flee the scene. He was apprehended a short distance from the crash with help from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say Semien showed signs of impairment.
He was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Vehicular Homicide, Hit and Run Driving, and Disregarding a Stop Sign.
