Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigating deputy-involved shooting during pursuit of stolen vehicle

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a deputy-involved shooting and a pursuit this evening. JPSO reports that deputies were informed that a stolen vehicle was in the 100 block of Airline Drive around 5:50 p.m.

Deputies responded to the area and located the vehicle near the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Monticello Avenue. Deputies attempted to carry out a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle did not stop.

The pursuit led deputies into New Orleans. Near the intersection of South Claiborne and Jefferson Avenue, the suspect vehicle stopped. Deputies attempted to approach the vehicle. At some point, a deputy fired his service weapon multiple times at the driver.

No one was injured at this time. The driver drove away and led deputies on a longer pursuit until the driver crashed into several poles near South Miro and Joseph. Following the crash, two adult males were taken into custody.

JPSO says a deputy was injured by a fallen live wire. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No other details are available.
