Jacob Brady and Robert Kelley Jr arrested for shooting a horse named Jake in Hanover County Virginia

According to a social media post from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 11200 block of Cauthorne Road in reference to a horse shot on October 18, 2023. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 19-year-old American Paint horse named Jack had been shot between his jaw and eye on October 17, 2023.

The horse was taken to the Blue Ridge Equine Clinic in Charlottesville, Virginia for treatment. The horse had multiple surgeries to repair and reconstruct its sinus cavity and dental structure. Hanover County Sheriff’s Office investigators identified two suspects, 20-year-old Jacob Brady and 18-year-old Robert Kelley Jr.

With help from the Chesterfield Police Department and Richmond Police Department, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested both suspects without incident on December 5, 2023. Authorities say investigators were also able to solve multiple mailbox shootings on Greenwood Road. Both suspects are being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail.

According to authorities, Jake is still recovering at the Blue Ridge Equine Clinic. Both suspects have been charged with Shooting a Firearm from a Vehicle, Attempt – Maiming/Killing of Livestock, Maiming/Killing of Livestock, and more.
