Topeka, Kansas – The Topeka Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that sent one person to the hospital on Friday evening.
According to a TPD statement, an officer from TPD stopped an individual on a bicycle in the area of Southwest 21st Street and Buchanan Street around 9 p.m. on January 17.
Around 8:59 p.m., the suspect allegedly took off on foot shortly after displaying a firearm. The officer discharged their weapon hitting the suspect.
Police say a firearm was found at the scene. The suspect, who is described as an adult male, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
No officers or citizens were injured. TPD has requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident.
