The Fairfax County Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a double murder near the Hattontown neighborhood in February 2023. 39-year-old Brendan Banfield of Reston has been charged with four counts of Aggravated Murder and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
At this time, Banfield is being held at the Adult Detention Center with no bond. Earlier, FCPD homicide detectives announced the arrest of an au pair in connection to the double shooting. Officers responded to a residence in the 13200 block of Stable Brook Way on February 24, 2023.
At the scene, officers found 37-year-old Christine Banfield in an upstairs bedroom suffering from stab wounds. Police found 39-year-old Joseph Ryan suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Police say the initial 911 call was made by the family’s au pair and Banfield’s husband. It is alleged that 23-year-old Juliana Peres Magalhaes fatally shot Joseph Ryan. She is charged with Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
