Husband and wife arrested for allegedly tampering with victim in child sexual abuse case

A husband and wife have been arrested for allegedly tampering with a witness in a child sexual abuse case and trying to get the husband out of prison. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that detectives were made aware of an attempt to tamper with a female victim on September 9.

Detectives say that 36-year-old Eric Cumming and his wife, 38-year-old Tabitha Cumming, were conspiring to get the juvenile to change her story to get Eric released. It is alleged that Eric was communicating with his wife using letters while lodged in the Douglas County Jail.

They were allegedly discussing ways of having Tabitha persuade the victim to change her story. Tabitha allegedly contacted the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office to advise them that the juvenile had recanted and wanted to set the record straight.

Detectives spoke to the juvenile victim and Tabitha. They say the accused took steps to tamper with the victim. Tabitha was booked into the Douglas County Jail on a charge of Tampering with a Witness.

Eric has since been charged with Tampering with a Witness. He is also charged with Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree x10 and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree x10.
