The Houston Police Department has announced charges against a 37-year-old woman in connection to the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old woman. Around 1:25 a.m. on December 21, 2023, officers were dispatched to a shooting call at a residence at 8630 Doris Oak Circle. At the scene, officers were met by a female, 37-year-old Portia Phillips, at the door with blood on her face and arms.

Phillips allegedly directed officers to a bedroom where a female was found with an apparent gunshot wound. Once paramedics reached the scene, they declared the female victim deceased. A gun was found in the bedroom. Officers detained Phillips for questioning.

Police say Phillips told them the victim was her wife. Investigators say the two women got into an argument. When it escalated, Phillips allegedly pointed a gun at the victim. At some point, the weapon discharged and the victim was struck. Charges have been filed against Phillips who was booked into the Harris County Jail.

Phillips is charged with murder.
