The Homewood Police Department announced in a social media post that it was investigating an attempted vehicular hijacking and gunshot victim in the 17900 block of Halsted. HPD officers and Homewood Fire Department paramedics responded to a report of a gunshot victim around 7:30 p.m. on December 17, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 19-year-old male victim was shot during an attempted vehicular hijacking. Authorities say the offender or offenders fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is in serious condition.

HPD investigators are investigating the incident with assistance from the Illinois State Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the HPD Criminal Investigations Unit at 708-206-3420.
