The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says a man was shot while breaking into a vehicle at a home on Will Baker Road. LCSO reports that the suspect was shot by the homeowner and is in serious condition at a Greenville hospital.

Authorities say 39-year-old Ryan Lee Burd of Morrisville was found on the side of Will Baker Road by deputies who were responding to a breaking and entering call a few minutes before midnight on Saturday.

Police say first aid was rendered to the man. Bud was transported to a landing zone and flown to the ECU Healthy Medical Center by East Care. He remains hospitalized in serious condition at this time.

LCSO says it is investigating the shooting and the findings will be handed over to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
