Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot during barricaded suspect situation

Update 3 – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has identified the individuals involved in this incident. 19-year-old Christos Alexander Themelis Jr. is accused of fatally shooting 51-year-old Christos Byron Themelis and 48-year-old Rebecca Anna Themelis.

Update 2 – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on the incident that injured a deputy. HCSO says the involved suspect killed his mother and father. Just after 11 p.m. on June 15, 2024, HCSO received a frantic 911 call from the mother saying her son had just shot her husband.

During the communication, the dispatcher heard more gunfire in the background. Deputies reached the scene in under three minutes and took a tactical position. HCSO deputies encountered the mother in the front yard and started a dialogue with her. Deputies observed the suspect walk up behind the mother and shoot her in the back of the head.

At this time, the suspect exchanged gunfire with the deputies. At least five deputies fired at the suspect. One deputy was struck in the lower extremities. The injured deputy was rushed to an area hospital where he is in stable condition at this time. The suspect went down before crawling inside the residence and barricading inside.

HCSO sent a robot inside the residence and found the deceased father inside. The robot could not go inside any further. SWAT entered the home and found the suspect deceased from his injuries.

HCSO says it has had at least 10 calls for service at the residence since 2021. The 19-year-old suspect was the subject of mental health calls and violence against his parents. HCSO has identified the suspect as Christos Alexander Themelis.

Update – HCSO confirms that the situation has been resolved. An update is expected soon.

Original – A deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has been shot. HCSO is on the scene of a barricaded subject situation. The injured deputy was transported to an area trauma center for treatment.

SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, and Explosive Ordinance Teams have responded to the scene. HCSO asks that you avoid the area of Ehrlich Road and Farmington Boulevard at this time.
