High Point Police Department identifies driver of fatal crash on Monday

The High Point Police Department has identified the driver of a fatal crash that is the city’s third traffic fatality of 2024. According to an HPPD media release, HPPD, High Point Fire Department, and Guilford County EMS responded to the intersection of College Drive and Branch Street for a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a building.

At the scene, responding units located a 2003 Honda Accord partially inside a building. The building and vehicle had extensive damage. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by Guilford County EMS. The HPPD Traffic Unit responded to assume the investigation.

HPPD says the preliminary investigation indicates that speed and lack of seatbelt use as contributing factors. The investigation is ongoing. HPPD says that the driver of the vehicle was 24-year-old Michael Gerald McLaurin of High Point.
