The Henderson Police Department has announced the arrest of 40-year-old Shamiar Carter in connection to a fatal shooting in the 800 block of Vance Street on Tuesday.

According to HPD, officers responded to the aforementioned location around 4:15 p.m. on December 3, 2024. Police say they found several individuals, including the victim, 24-year-old Ja’neta Teiona Wynn, and the suspect, 40-year-old Shamiar Carter.

Police say Wynn suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

HPD believes there was an altercation involving multiple individuals. The altercation allegedly led to Carter discharging her firearm and fatally striking Wynn. Police say Carter remained at the scene and was detained by responding officers.

HPD confirms the suspected firearm was located and seized with other items of evidence. Carter has been charged with the homicide of Ja’neta Teiona Wynn. She was booked into the Vance County Detention Facility without bond.
