The Hawaii Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle collision in Waikoloa that left two women deceased. According to a media release, Hawaii Island Police says a two-vehicle traffic collision on March 30, 2024 left two elderly women dead. A call came in around 11:39 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities determined that a blue 2020 Kia Soul SUV was heading east on Waikoloa Road when the vehicle crossed over the center line and hit a silver 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SUV head-on. 72-year-old Lynn Capell, who was driving the Kia, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The 75-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet and the 77-year-old male passenger were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for treatment. A rear passenger in the Chevrolet, 79-year-old Eugenia Taylor, was found unresponsive. She was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased.
A third vehicle swerved off the road onto lava rock to avoid the collision. The occupants of the silver 2023 Chevrolet Equinox were uninjured but the vehicle was rendered inoperable. Police believe speeding and inattention may be factors in the crash.
