The Hattiesburg Police Department has announced a second arrest in a deadly shooting at the Pineview Apartments on March 25, 2024. According to HPD, officers responded to the 1500 block of Country Club Road around 4:45 a.m. on March 25. At the scene, officers found a 15-year-old female in the exterior stairwell of the apartment complex.
The victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene. In a later update, HPD said it had arrested and charged a suspect in the death of 15-year-old Jayna Lumzy with assistance from the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office. A 17-year-old from Lamar County was charged with one count of 1st Degree Murder.
On April 1, 2024, HPD announced another arrest in the shooting. 20-year-old Javan Stovall of Columbia, Mississippi was taken into custody and charged with one count of 1st Degree Murder. HPD says additional arrests and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
