Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrests suspect in fatal shooting of 35-year-old man at bus stop

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at 22626 Imperial Valley Drive on December 7. Around 9:35 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call of a male found shot in the roadway at the aforementioned location in Houston. Upon arrival, deputies found EMS personnel rendering medical aid to the victim who suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

35-year-old Ashton Russell was transported to Houston Northwest Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Deputies say Russell was at the bus stop with at least four other black males and one female when a fight broke out. During the fight, Russell was shot by an unknown suspect.

At the scene, deputies found several fired casings, a pry bar, and a knife on the ground near the bus stop. Investigators with the HCSO Homicide and Crime Scene Unit responded to assume control of the investigation. On December 22, 2023, HCSO Homicide Investigators charged 34-year-old Sharonda Campbell with Murder in the fatal shooting of Ashton Russell.

Campbell was booked into the Harris County Jail.
