Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrests man for manslaughter following encounter with convenience store clerk

A man has been arrested for manslaughter following a violent encounter with a convenience store clerk in March. According to HCSO, the Harris County Precinct #4 Constable’s Office referred a death investigation to the sheriff’s office on April 1, 2024. On March 13, 2024, Precinct #4 deputies responded to a convenience store at 19712 Tomball Parkway for a reported aggravated assault.

HCSO says the store clerk, 65-year-old Muhammad Maqsood, allowed a bearded white man to enter the store. Once inside, the man allegedly demanded to use the telephone and followed the clerk outside where he pushed the clerk to the pavement. Maqsood struck his head before the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Later, a customer discovered Maqsood disoriented so they called 911. Maqsood was transported to an area hospital where he remained in critical condition for roughly two weeks until he passed away on March 31, 2024. The HCSO Homicide Unit investigated the incident. Homicide Investigators say they identified the suspect as 36-year-old Joshua Waid.

Around 9:45 a.m. on April 8, 2024, Waid was located at work near Memorial Drive and Kirkwood. He was taken into custody without incident. Waid is charged with Manslaughter and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
